My first experience of using clay was when I did my City and Guilds in Ceramics at Amersham College many years ago. Later, I decided to do a BA (Ceramics and Glass) – and then an MA in Ceramics at Bucks New University (2015).
I had a studio at Commercial Square, High Wycombe, for over 5 years, and when the developers took over the site, I set up my own ceramics studio at home in Farnham Royal (Bucks).
At University I researched issues to do with marine ecology and from then on have developed a range of sculptural work to do with coral bleaching and overfishing, including installations, which have been exhibited in several UK galleries and in Denmark. This stems from my upbringing on the North East coast of Scotland.
I also enjoy making ceramic shoes – not sure where this comes from, except I think every girl has an “Imelda Marcos” gene! However – they are mini sculptures in their own right.
I am also a printmaker – and particularly enjoy mono printing. I use the Print Studio at Amersham College.
I am also a member of the Buckinghamshire Craft Guild, West Forest Potters Group, and the Buckinghamshire Pottery and Sculpture Society. I exhibit with them, and at Bucks Open Studios every year.
